Gratulatio Reginæ ad Comitem Palatinum sub auspicia Anni 1638.

Est in antiquo more positum, Serenissime Princeps, Affinis charissime, sub auspicia ineuntis anni gratulationes ab amicis fieri. Quem morem ut ego quoque sub ingressum hujus novi anni millesimi sexcentesimi trigesimi octavi, servarem, tua in me merita & humanitatis obsequia, me impulerunt. Undè autem gratulationem meam potiùs exordiar atque perficiam, quàm ut æterno maximo Deo gratias, quantas mente comprehendere possum, maximas agam, quod Celsitudinem tuam unà cum illustrissimâ Amitâ & liberis charissimis, salvos ac incolumes in hunc usque diem clementer conservare voluerit, ab eodemque Deo Optimo, tibi & tuis, optima & secundissima quæque deinceps voveam. Omnipotens ille Deus dignetur, eas quas pro immensâ suâ bonitate, nostro inseminavit animo dotes, potenter per spiritum suum accendere, augere, roborare, teque tuosque nobis auxilio & patriæ commodo diù florere & superesse. Atque hæc mihi nunc in mentem venerunt, Serenissime Princeps, quum gratulationis officio sub initium hujus anni apud Celsitudinem tuam fungi vellem; quæ licèt tenuiora sint, quàm ut desiderio tuo satisfacere possint; ab eo tamen animo sunt profecta, qui nihil optatius in votis habet, quàm ut amorem, benevolentiam ac favorem in te tuosque suum, quovis loco & tempore, longiùs ac latiùs diffundere possit. C'est l'ancienne coutume, Prince Sérénissime, mon cher oncle, sous les auspices du début de l'année, que les félicitations soient faites par des amis. Vos mérites et votre civilité m'ont obligé à observer la coutume que moi aussi, à l'entrée de cette nouvelle année mil six cent trente-huit, j'ai inculqué en moi. Era förtjänster och artighet har föranlett mig att följa den sed som jag också, vid ingången av detta nya år, ett tusen sexhundratrettioåtta, har ingjutit mig. Your merits and civility have impelled me to observe the custom which I, too, at the entry of this New Year, one thousand six hundred and thirty-eight, have instilled in me. Wherefore shall I best begin and finish my congratulations, whence I give the greatest thanks to the most eternal God, as much as I can comprehend in my mind, that He has graciously wished to keep Your Highness, together with my most illustrious Aunt and your dearest children, safe and sound until this day; and by the same Most Excellent God, to you and yours, I wish the best and the secondest and everything hereafter. May the Almighty God see fit to grant those gifts which, for His immense goodness, He has inseminated in our hearts, powerfully by His spirit to kindle, increase, and strengthen you and yours, with our help and to the advantage of the country, to let you flourish and survive for a long time. And these things have come to my mind now, Most Serene Prince, when I would like to perform the office of congratulations at the beginning of this year with Your Highness, which may be insufficient to satisfy your desire; yet they proceed from that mind which has nothing more to wish for than to be able to spread love, benevolence, and favour to you and yours, in every place and time, near and far.
