Quanto al tempo per arrivar alla lugubre festa di Brandembourg, m'avanzerebbe se vi volesse andare, mà io che hò poco genio co' morti, non accetterò l'invito certo, e dirò comme disse quel Cav:r. Spagnuolo, che fù invitato a far un duello, rispose: «Por tal cosas muy de mi gusto non mi levanto tantemprano,» e cosi credo di dar anco più gusto a chi m'invita, e di compir meglio con l'intenzione d'ambidue.

Le tems me permettroit bien d'aller à la lugubre fête de Brandebourg, si je voulois y aller; mais moi qui ai peu de communication avec les morts, je n'accepterai sûrement pas l'invitation, & je dirai comme celui qui fut invité à se battre en duel avec un Cavalier Espagnol: «Por tal cosas muy de mi gusto non mi levanto tantemprano.» J'aime trop mes aises pour bouger de ma place pour cela; & par-là je crois aussi faire plus de plaisir à celui qui m'invite, & accomplir le mieux les intentions de côté & d'autre.
Swedish translation (my own; I cannot tag it as such due to character limits in the tags):
Tiden skulle javisst tillåta mig att gå till den dystra festen i Brandenburg om jag ville gå; men jag, som har ringa kommunikation med de döda, kommer ändå säkerligen inte att acceptera inbjudan, och jag kommer att säga som någon som var inbjuden att utkämpa en duell med en spansk caballero: »Por tal cosas muy de mi gusto, non mi levanto tantemprano.« Och därigenom tror jag också att jag ger mer nöje åt den som bjuder in mig och att jag uppnår de bästa avsikterna på den ena sidan och på den andra.
English translation (my own):
Time would allow me to go to the lugubrious feast at Brandenburg if I wanted to go; but I, who have little communication with the dead, will surely not accept the invitation, and I will say like someone who was invited to fight a duel with a Spanish caballero: "Por tal cosas muy de mi gusto, non mi levanto tantemprano." And by that, I also believe that I am giving more pleasure to the one who invites me and accomplishing the best intentions on one side and on the other.

J'ai reçu les témoignages de zèle et de respect que vous m'avez témoignés de sa part, témoignant aussi du grand contentement que j'ai éprouvé à l'heureuse nouvelle du prince né de l'électeur, son maître.
Je me réjouis donc d'apprendre que le marquis Jean-Matthieu est arrivé heureux à Norrköping, attendant son arrivée la plus rapide à Stockholm. Dieu, etc.

I have received the expressions of zeal and respect towards me that you have given me on his behalf, also testifying the great contentment I have felt at the happy news of the prince born to the Elector, his master.
I then rejoice to hear that the Marquis Giovanni Mattia has arrived happily in Norrköping, awaiting his most prompt arrival in Stockholm. God, etc.

As for the time of arriving at the lugubrious feast in Brandenburg, I would go ahead with it if I wanted to go; but I, who have little genius with the dead, will certainly not accept the invitation, and I will say the same thing which that Spanish caballero who was invited to a duel replied: "Por tal cosas muy de mi gusto, non mi levanto tantemprano" — and in this way I think I will give even more pleasure to him who invites me and will fulfill better the intention of us both.

Notes: Friedrich Wilhelm, the son of Elector Friedrich III of Brandenburg, had been born on August 14, 1688. He grew up to be the King of Prussia as well as the Elector of Brandenburg, passing away on May 31, 1740; and he had among his many children Friedrich II the Great (1712-1786).
