De Rome ce 17. Décembre 1672.

Je suis très-satisfaite de vos nouvelles, & de la ponctualité avec laquelle vous continuez un commerce qui m'est si agréable, & je veux bien vous témoigner par la présente, que vous m'obligez; mais en même tems je prétends vous charger d'une nouvelle commission, qui est de ménager pour moi un Correspondant à Paris & à Bruxelles qui m'écrive de la même maniére que vous; mais prenez garde de ne me donner pas quelqu'un de ces flatteurs, ni admirateurs de la Cour; car je veux savoir la vérité de ce qui s'y passe dans un siécle qui va se rendre à l'avenir digne de la curiosité de toutes les personnes raisonnables. Concertez-vous avec Texeira là-dessus, car je lui donne les ordres nécessaires pour satisfaire aux dépenses. Dieu vous fasse prospérer.

Från Rom, den 17 december 1672.

Jag är mycket nöjd med Era nyheter och med den punktlighet med vilken Ni fortsätter en för mig så behaglig handel; och jag vill härmed vittna för Er att Ni förpliktar mig, men jag ämnar på samma gång ålägga Er en ny kommission, som är att ordna åt mig en korrespondent i Paris och Bryssel som skall skriva till mig på samma sätt som Ni; men akta mig för att inte ge mig någon av dessa smickrare och inte heller hovets beundrare, ty jag vill veta sanningen om vad som sker där i ett århundrade som i framtiden kommer att bli värdigt alla förnuftiga människors nyfikenhet. Samordna med Texeira om detta, ty jag ger honom de nödvändiga befallningarna för att täcka kostnaderna. Gud välsigne Er.

English translation (my own):

From Rome, December 17, 1672.

I am very satisfied with your news and with the punctuality with which you continue a business which is so agreeable to me; and I want to testify to you hereby that you oblige me, but at the same time, I intend to charge you with a new commission, which is to arrange for me a correspondent in Paris and Brussels who will write to me in the same manner as you; but take care not to give me one of those flatterers, nor admirers of the court, for I want to know the truth of what goes on there in a century which will in the future become worthy of the curiosity of all reasonable people. Coordinate with Texeira on this, for I am giving him the necessary orders to meet the expenses. God bless you.
