Monsieur Vossius, j'ai reçu vos deux Lettres, qui m'ont bien fait plaisir, puisque j'agrée en cette occasion les témoignages de votre zéle. J'ai été charmé[e] de votre Livre, l'ayant trouvé savant, curieux & agréable, & je me réjouis avec vous de ce que vous employez si bien vos talens. Il me tarde que vous fassiez voir le jour à votre Ptolomée, car je m'imagine que le Public vous sera bien redevable de votre travail; & quoique mon ignorance me rende incapable d'en profiter, je ne laisserai pas de vous en avoir une égale obligation avec le Public. Cependant je vous prie de me faire savoir ce qu'on a imprimé de plus, des Ouvrages de feu Vossius votre Pére; car estimant beaucoup ce grand homme, je veux avoir ses Ouvrages pour les emporter en Italie, & pour m'en délecter ici en attendant; car vous n'ignorez pas que je suis présentement dans un Païs, où la conversation des morts doit consoler de celle des vivans. Je prie Dieu &c.

Jag har mottagit Era två brev, som gav mig stort nöje, eftersom jag vid detta tillfälle tar emot beviset på Er iver. I have received your two letters, which gave me great pleasure, as on this occasion I accept the evidence of your zeal. I was charmed with your book, having found it learned, curious and agreeable, and I rejoice with you that you employ your talents so well. I long for you to bring your Ptolemy to life, for I imagine that the public will be very indebted to you for your work; and although my ignorance renders me incapable of profiting by it, I will not fail to have an equal obligation to you with the public. In the meantime, please let me know what else has been printed of the works of the late Vossius your father, for, having great esteem for this great man, I want to have his works to take them to Italy, and to delight in them here while waiting; for you are not unaware that I am presently in a country where the conversation of the dead must console that of the living. I pray to God, etc.
