The anecdote:
Christinas moder, enkedrottningen Maria Eleonora, hade mycken böjelse för byggnadskonsten, hvilken ledde henne till omkostnader, dem hon sällan hade råd att bestrida. Hennes dotter sade i anledning deraf: "Det är något nytt, att man ruinerar sig med att icke bygga; men om enkedrottningen alltid vill bygga slott i luften, är jag ej sinnad att betala dem."
English translation (my own):
Kristina's mother, the Dowager Queen Maria Eleonora, had a great penchant for architecture, which led her to costs which she could rarely afford to contend with. Her daughter said in connection with this: "It is something new that one ruins oneself by not building; but if the Dowager Queen always wants to build castles in the air, I have no intention of paying for them."
