Hambourg le 19. Septembre 1668.
J'ai été bien surprise lorsque j'ai vu arriver Leioncrone avec une Lettre du Roi de Suède, pleine d'expressions respectueuses & tendres sur le sujet de mes propositions, sur lesquelles je vous ai déjà déclaré mes derniéres volontés dans mes précédentes, & qui n'ont été changées, ni par toutes les douceurs de la Lettre qu'on m'a écrite, ni par l'éloquence de ce bon homme, qui n'a rien épargné pour me persuader qu'il falloit accepter les propositions du Roi. Je vous envoye une Copie de la Réponse que j'ai faite au Roi, & les derniéres conditions sur l'affaire de l'Echange, desquelles je ne me relâcherai jamais. Je n'ai rien à ajouter à mes ordres précédens, si ce n'est de vous ordonner de presser vos dépêches vigoureusement; car ces longueurs de Suède me remettent dans le dernier désespoir. Je vous envoye aussi la Copie du Mémoire que j'ai donné à Leioncrone, & Dieu vous conserve.

P. S. Dans l'incertitude où je suis si l'Echange réussira ou non, il faut toujours arrêter l'affaire de la Religion, & tâcher de l'obtenir de la maniére qu'elle a été accordée par le Roi & les Etats dans les Conditions proposées par le Roi même. Il faut aussi pousser les autres prétentions le plus loin que vous pourrez en cas que l'Echange ne réussisse pas, & le tout selon les ordres que je vous ai donnés dans mes précédentes.

Jag blev mycket förvånad när jag såg Leijoncrona anlända med ett brev från Sveriges Konung, fullt av vördnadsfulla och ömma uttryck i ämnet för mina propositioner, om vilket jag redan i mina tidigare brev har förklarat Er mina sista önskningar, och som har inte förändrats, varken av all det ljuvliga brevet, som skrevs till mig, eller av denne gode mans vältalighet, som icke sparat något för att övertyga mig om att jag måste acceptera Konungens förslag. Jag sänder Er en kopia av det svar jag gav till Konungen och de sista villkoren i fråga om utbytet, från vilka jag aldrig vill slappna av. Jag har ingenting att tillägga till mina tidigare befallningar förutom att beordra Er att påskynda Era försändelser kraftigt, ty dessa Sveriges longueurs försätter mig i den största förtvivlan. Jag sänder Er också kopian av memorandumet som jag gav till Leijoncrona, och Gud bevare Er.

P. S. I den ovisshet jag befinner mig i om utbytet kommer att lyckas eller inte, är det alltid nödvändigt att stoppa religionsaffären och försöka få den på det sätt som det har beviljats av Konungen och Ständerna i de villkor som Konungen själv föreslagit. Ni måste också driva de andra anspråken så långt Ni kan ifall bytet inte lyckas, och allt enligt de befallning jag gav Er i mina tidigare brev.
English translation (my own):
Hamburg, September 19, 1668.
I was very surprised when I saw Leijoncrona arrive with a letter from the King of Sweden, full of respectful and tender expressions on the subject of my propositions, on which I have already declared my last wishes to you in my previous letters, and which have not been changed, either by all the sweetness of the letter that was written to me, or by the eloquence of this good man, who spared nothing to persuade me that I must accept the King's propositions. I am sending you a copy of the reply I made to the King, and the last conditions on the matter of the exchange, from which I will never relax. I have nothing to add to my previous orders except to order you to hurry your despatches vigorously, for these longueurs of Sweden are putting me in the greatest despair. I am also sending you the copy of the memorandum which I gave to Leijoncrona, and may God keep you.

P. S. In the uncertainty in which I am about whether the exchange will succeed or not, it is always necessary to stop the affair of religion, and to try to obtain it in the manner in which it has been granted by the King and the Estates in the conditions proposed by the King himself. You must also push the other claims as far as you can in case the exchange does not succeed, and all according to the orders I gave you in my previous letters.
