INSTRUCTION CEREMONIALE.
I. Sitôt qu'il sera arrivé à Nimégue, il s'informera exactement du Cérémonial de l'endroit, & se réglera en tout sur l'exemple des Ambassadeurs des Couronnes de France & d'Espagne, se faisant traiter de pair avec eux en tout & par-tout.
II. Il ne cédera jamais qu'au Nonce Apostolique, & si les Ministres des autres Rois cédent, comme on le suppose, à ceux de l'Empereur, qu'il fasse de-même.
III. Il entretiendra avec le Nonce Apostolique la meilleure & la plus étroite correspondance, lui montrant dans toutes les occurrences une totale dépendance de son autorité, exprimant dans toutes ses actions le grand respect & la véneration de la Reine pour le Pape & le Saint Siége.
IV. Il communiquera ses Instructions audit Nonce, & apprendra ses avis dans toutes ces occurrences & en celles où les S. M. est intéressée.
V. Il se pourvoyera d'un Chapelain, & se servira de la Chapelle de la Reine, tout le tems de son Ambassade.
VI. Il ne demandera de passeport à personne pour aller à Nimuége, mais il y ira avec celui de la Reine, disant qu'elle est amie de tous, & qu'elle l'a envoyé pour travailler de concert à ses intérêts.
VII. Il ne souffrira jamais qu'on donne à la Reine, ni par écrit ni de bouche, le titre de «Sérénissime»; & s'il veut lui donner des titres, qu'il donne celui d'«Auguste», ou simplement celui de «Reine Christine», lequel elle prétend être plus que tous les titres du monde. Elle ne prétend pourtant pas obliger personne à lui donner le titre d'«Auguste», mais elle n'en veut point d'autre.
VIII. Quand le Marquis lui-même parlera de la Reine, comme son Ministre, il dira «la Reine» tout court; & quand il parlera d'autrui Rois, il dira «le Roi de France», «le Roi d'Espagne» &c. Il prendra aussi garde de ne jamais ajouter, ni par écrit ni de bouche, le titre de «Clementissime» à la Reine, évitant comme la peste de pareilles Tudesqueries. Il dira en Latin «Regina Christina», mais pour l'ordinaire seulement «la Reine.»
IX. S'il lui arrive de dresser quelque Ecrit pour le Traité avec les Ministres d'autres Princes, il observera bien d'y nommer toujours la Reine la premiére, & après le Prince avec qui il traitera; desorte qu'en écrivant il fera donner la préséance à la Reine, & le Ministre du Prince avec qui il traitera, donnera la préséance à son Prince, le nommant le premier; & ils échangeront ainsi réciproquement leurs Ecrits. Le Marquis sera très-attentif à tout cela, & se servira de la même régle en Suède ou ailleurs, où il aura à négocier.
X. Il entretiendra avec toutes les Couronnes & leurs Ministres amitié & bonne correspondance, suivant celle qu'on lui témoignera; & il observera en tout une parfaite neutralité, excepté avec le Ministre du Pape, avec qui il se comportera de la maniére qui lui a été ordonné ci-dessus.
XI. Dans le Traité où il s'agira des intérêts de la Reine, il fera ensorte qu'on fasse d'elle une honorable & glorieuse mention; & quand on le fera en sa faveur, on déclarera que c'est en vertu de ce que S. M. a mérité de l'Eglise, de l'Empereur, de la Suède, & de tous les autres Princes: prenant garde qu'on donne à la Reine une place honorable par-tout où elle sera nommée.

Ceremoniella instruktioner.
I. Så snart han anländer till Nijmegen, skall han förhöra sig exakt om platsens ceremoni och skall reglera sig i allt efter exemplet av ambassadörerna för Frankrikes och Spaniens Kronor, och låta sig behandlas i paritet med dem i allt och överallt.
II. Han skall aldrig ge vika utom för den apostoliska Nuntien, och om de andra konungarnas ministrar ger efter, som man antar, för Kejsarens, bör han göra detsamma.
III. Han skall upprätthålla den bästa och närmaste korrespondensen med den apostoliska Nuntien, visa honom i alla fall totalt beroende av sin auktoritet, och i alla sina handlingar uttrycka den stora respekt och vördnad som Drottningen har för Påven och den Heliga Stolen.
IV. Han skall meddela sina instruktioner till nämnde Nuntien och förnimma hans åsikter i alla dessa händelser och i de där Hennes Majestät är inblandad.
V. Han skall förse sig med en kapellan och kommer att använda sig av Drottningens kapell, hela tiden på sin ambassad.
VI. Han skall inte be någon om ett pass för att åka till Nijmegen, utan han skall följa med Drottningens och säga att hon är allas vän och att hon har skickat honom att arbeta tillsammans för sina intressen.
VII. Han skall aldrig tillåta att Drottningen får titeln »Serenissima«, vare sig skriftligen eller muntligen; och om han vill ge henne titlar, skall han ge den av »högborna«, eller helt enkelt »Drottning Kristina«, som hon påstår sig vara mer än alla titlar i världen. Hon påstår sig dock inte att tvinga någon att ge henne titeln »högborna«, men hon vill inte ha någon annan.
VIII. När Markisen själv talar om Drottningen, som sin minister, skall han helt enkelt säga »Drottningen«; och när han talar om andra konungar, skall han säga »Konungen av Frankrike«, »Konungen av Spanien« osv. Han skall också se till att aldrig lägga till, vare sig skriftligen eller muntligen, titeln »Clementissima« till Drottningen, undvika sådana tyskerier som pesten. Han kommer att säga på latin »Regina Christina«, men vanligtvis bara »Drottningen«.
IX. Om han råkar upprätta något dokument för fördraget med andra furstars ministrar, skall han iaktta att alltid först ange Drottningen däri och därefter den furste som han skall behandla, så att han skriftligen ger företräde åt Drottningen; och furstens minister som han behandlar med skall ge företräde åt sin furste, och nämna honom först; och de skall således ömsesidigt utbyta sina skrifter. Markisen skall vara mycket uppmärksam på allt detta och skall använda samma regel i Sverige eller någon annanstans där han skall behöva förhandla.
X. Han skall upprätthålla med alla Kronorna och deras ministrar vänskap och god brevväxling, efter det som man skall vittna för honom; och han kommer att iaktta en fullkomlig neutralitet i allt, utom med Påvens minister, med vilken han kommer att uppträda på det sätt som har beordrats honom ovan.
XI. I det fördrag som behandlar Drottningens intressen skall han se till att hon görs ett hedersamt och ärofullt omnämnande; och när det sker till hennes fördel, skall det förklaras att det är i kraft av vad Hennes Majestät har förtjänat av Kyrkan, från Kejsaren, från Sverige och från alla andra furstar, varvid man ser till att man ger Drottningen en hedersplats var hon än utses.
English translation (my own):
Ceremonial Instructions.
I. As soon as he arrives at Nijmegen, he will inquire exactly about the ceremonial of the place, and will regulate himself in everything on the example of the ambassadors of the Crowns of France and Spain, making himself be treated on par with them in everything and everywhere.
II. He will never yield except to the Apostolic Nuncio, and if the ministers of the other kings yield, as one supposes, to those of the Emperor, he should do the same.
III. He will maintain the best and closest correspondence with the Apostolic Nuncio, showing him in all cases total dependence on his authority, expressing in all his actions the great respect and veneration the Queen has for the Pope and the Holy See.
IV. He will communicate his instructions to the said Nuncio, and learn his opinions in all these occurrences and in those where Her Majesty is involved.
V. He will provide himself with a chaplain, and will make use of the Queen's chapel, all the time of his embassy.
VI. He will not ask anyone for a passport to go to Nijmegen, but he will go with the Queen's, saying that she is a friend of everyone, and that she has sent him to work in concert for her interests.
VII. He would never allow the Queen to be given, either in writing or by mouth, the title of "Serenissima"; and if he wishes to give her titles, he will give that of "August", or simply that of "Queen Kristina", which she claims to be more than all the titles in the world. However, she does not pretend to oblige anyone to give her the title of "August", but she does not want any other.
VIII. When the Marquis himself speaks of the Queen, like his minister, he will simply say "the Queen"; and when he speaks of other kings, he will say "the King of France", "the King of Spain", etc. He will also take care never to add, either in writing or by mouth, the title of "Clementissima" to the Queen, avoiding such Teutonisms like the plague. He will say in Latin "Regina Christina", but usually only "the Queen."
IX. If he happens to draw up some document for the treaty with the ministers of other princes, he will observe well to always name the Queen therein first, and afterwards the prince with whom he will treat, so that in writing he will cause precedence to be given to the Queen; and the prince's minister with whom he treats will give precedence to his prince, naming him first; and they will thus reciprocally exchange their writings. The Marquis will be very attentive to all this, and will use the same rule in Sweden or elsewhere where he will have to negotiate.
X. He will maintain with all the Crowns and their ministers friendship and good correspondence, according to that which one will testify to him; and he will observe a perfect neutrality in everything, except with the minister of the Pope, with whom he will behave in the manner which has been ordered to him above.
XI. In the treaty dealing with the interests of the Queen, he will see to it that she is made an honourable and glorious mention; and when it is done in her favour, it will be declared that it is in virtue of what Her Majesty has merited from the Church, from the Emperor, from Sweden, and from all the other princes, taking care that one gives the Queen an honourable place wherever she is appointed.
