Sapiate che dopo l'ultima promotione il Francesi hanno fatto con me dichiarazione quasi di publica nimicizia, e hanno machinato contro di me a Roma, in Suezia, e per tutto, cose horibili. Io vi lo dico, perche siate informato e sapiate informar chi bisogna.

French translation of the postscript (by Arckenholtz):

C'est être bien simple, que de s'être nourrie de vaines espérances. J'attendrai avec impatience. Ecrivez-moi tout ce que vous savez de l'état de la Suède, car il m'importe de le savoir; & quoique j'en sache beaucoup, je veux pourtant en savoir encore plus.

Sachez qu'après la derniére promotion, les François m'ont déclaré quasi une inimitié publique, & qu'ils ont machiné contre moi à Rome, en Suède, & par-tout, des choses horribles. Je vous le dis, afin que vous en soyez informé, & que vous puissiez en informer où besoin sera. Au-reste on a eu raison d'habiller le Sénat de Suède de rouge, parce qu'ils devroient rougir de ce qui s'y passe. Ah! de quel secours est cette propre pour les Provinces perdues! Tout cela fait pleurer & rire ceux qui le sentent. Les Sénateurs prennent l'habit rouge, justement dans le tems que le Duché de Bréme est attaqué.

Swedish translation (my own):

Man är väldigt enkelt att ha livnät sig på fåfänga förhoppningar. Jag väntar otåligt. Skriv till mig allt Ni vet om Sveriges tillstånd, ty det är viktigt för mig att veta det; och även om jag vet mycket, vill jag veta ännu mer.

Vet att fransmännen efter den senaste befordran förklarade mig nästan för en offentlig fiendskap, och att de har skapat hemska saker mot mig i Rom, i Sverige och överallt. Jag säger detta till Er för att Ni skall få information om det och för att Ni skall kunna informera om det där det behövs. För övrigt var det rätt att klä Sveriges råd i rött, ty de borde skämmas över det som sker där. Åh, vilken rätt hjälp är detta för de förlorade provinserna! Allt detta får de som känner det att gråta och skratta. Rådsmännen bär sina röda rockar just vid den tidpunkt då hertigdömet Bremen attackeras.

English translation (my own):

It is to be very simple to have fed on vain hopes. I will wait impatiently. Write to me all that you know of the state of Sweden, for it is important to me to know it; and although I know a great deal, I want to know even more.

Know that after the last promotion, the French declared me almost a public enmity, and that they have contrived horrible things against me in Rome, in Sweden, and everywhere. I say this to you so that you may be informed of it and so that you may inform about it where necessary. For the rest, it was right to dress the Council of Sweden in red, because they should be ashamed of what is happening there. Oh, what proper help is this for the lost provinces! All this makes those who feel it cry and laugh. The councilmen are wearing their red coats precisely at the time that the Duchy of Bremen is being attacked.
