Le 27. Avril 1675.

Monsieur le Comte Montecuculi, je vous remercie de l'avis que vous m'avez donné du nouvel Emploi que l'Empereur votre Maître vous a accordé. Je suis ravie de voir qu'on rende justice à votre mérite, par la confiance qu'on prend en votre personne, & je souhaite que la fortune & la gloire accompagnent toujours vos exploits; mais que vous ne soyez jamais employé contre la Suède, car ce me seroit une douleur sensible de vous voir engagé contre elle. Si l'on eût cru mes conseils, les affaires ne seroient pas réduites aux extrémités où je les vois précipiter; mais il y a des fatalités dans les affaires humaines, qui ne peuvent s'éviter, quelque prévoyance qu'on ait. Cependant je prie Dieu qu'il vous conserve, & vous fasse prospérer.

Den 27 april 1675.

Herr greve Montecuccoli,

Jag tackar Er för de råd Ni har givit mig om den nya anställning som kejsaren, Er herre, har beviljat Er. Det glädjer mig att se att rättvisa görs till Er förtjänst genom det förtroende som människor har för Er person, och jag hoppas att fortun och ära alltid kommer att följa med Era bedrifter; men må Ni aldrig bli anställd mot Sverige, ty det vore en stor smärta för mig att se Er anställd mot henne. Om mina råd hade trotts, skulle affärerna inte reduceras till de ytterligheter till vilka jag ser dem falla ut; men det finns ju fataliteter i mänskliga angelägenheter som inte kan undvikas, hur mycket förutseende man än må ha. Emellertid ber jag till Gud att han bevare Er och välsigne Er.

English translation (my own):

April 27, 1675.

Lord Count Montecuccoli,

I thank you for the advice you have given me of the new employment which the Emperor, your master, has granted you. I am delighted to see that justice is done to your merit by the confidence people have in your person, and I hope that fortune and glory will always accompany your exploits; but may you never be employed against Sweden, for it would be a great pain for me to see you engaged against her. If my advice had been believed, affairs would not be reduced to the extremes to which I see them precipitate; but there are fatalities in human affairs which cannot be avoided, however much foresight one may have. In the meantime, I pray to God that He preserve you and bless you.
