Hambourg, 31 juillet 1666.

MONSIEUR LE MARQUIS DE LIONNE,

J'ai cru devoir remercier le Roi de ses bontés, et je Vous envoye la lettre en vous remerçiant aussi de vos bons offices. Je vous prie de vous expliquer sur la sujet du mémoire, que vous trouverez ici joint, et me faire savoir si vous avez jugé à propos de le lire au Roi; car après cela l'on verra ce que l'on aura à faire, selon l'envie que vous témoignerez de vouloir entrer en matière. Pour moi j'embrasse avec joie les occasions de vous pouvoir assurer de mon estime et amitié, vous priant d'en être persuadé. Je prie Dieu qu'il vous tienne en sa sainte garde.

Hamburg, den 31 juli 1666.

Monsieur le marquis de Lionne,

Jag tänkte att jag skulle tacka konungen för hans godhet, och jag skickar Er brevet och tackar Er också för Era goda ämbeten. Jag ber Er förklara Er angående ämnet för memorialen, som Ni finner här bifogad, och låt mig veta, om Ni har tyckt Er att den skulle läsas för konungen; ty därefter får vi se vad vi skall göra, efter önskan att Ni skall bevisa att vilja gå in i saken. För min del omfamnar jag med glädje de tillfällen att kunna försäkra Er om min aktning och vänskap, och ber Er att övertygas om det. Jag ber till Gud att han bevarar Eder i sin heliga vård.

English translation (my own):

Hamburg, July 31, 1666.

Monsieur le marquis de Lionne,

I thought I should thank the King for his kindness, and I send you the letter thanking you also for your good offices. I beg you to explain yourself on the subject of the memorandum, which you will find attached here, and let me know if you have thought fit to read it to the King; because after that we will see what we will have to do, according to the desire that you will testify to want to enter into the matter. For my part, I embrace with joy the occasions of being able to assure you of my esteem and friendship, asking you to be persuaded of it. I pray to God that He keep you in His holy keeping.
